Training & Development

Nassau Group matches people to companies’ goals. If the match isn’t optimal yet, we apply short, tailor made, and effective training sessions. Our focus is mostly on finding the best balance between IQ and EQ. Aside from being competent and experienced, qualities such as a get-up-and-go attitude, empathy, flexibility, and organisational awareness and sensitivity are key success factors. Skill development training sessions can take two to five days, depending on size and need. Team Training sessions take 3 to 4 day-parts.

Aside from custom made training and development, Nassau Group also offers the following trainings:

Persuasion and Influencing Skills
Persuading or influencing each other – it is something we all encounter each day. The way we phrase or intone has great influence on how people respond. We all communicate, but being an effective communicator is not easy. Communication is only successful when the other person understands, accepts and acts positively upon it. It is therefore important to speak the language of the other; goal oriented people speak a different language from people who are structurally-oriented or people with a sensitive nature.

This training will equip you with the skills and techniques to communicate quicker, more effectively and persuasively.

Leadership
Leadership today consists of a get-up-and-go attitude, combined with self awareness, guts, dealing with insecurity, organisational sensitivity and awareness, coaching (daring to let go), en strategy skills. This training focuses on your leadership skills, utilising your professional circumstances and situations to work towards your personal learning goals.

This training will offer you a stronger awareness of leadership styles, and how to best implement them.

Strategy Skills
For many employees facing difficult situations on the job, such as dealing with internal or external clients, other employees, or (higher) management, can be a challenge. Rather than looking at a broader perspective they tend to focus on the one person obstructing them.

This training teaches the participants to see the achievement of goals as a chess game. Not only is it important to look beyond the person in front of you, but acknowledge the others as well. And equally important – what could be the driving forces of those you face, and how can you deal with them strategically.

Participants learn to play the strategic games inherent in organisations.

Feedback and Internal Communication
Few people acknowledge the potential disparity between good intentions and the adverse affects they can create. It is one of the reasons why people find it hard to deal with feedback. “I worked so hard at it!”, or “I did my best!” Feedback is taken personally by many, which results in many people being reluctant to offer feedback. Which is a shame as feedback should be considered an offer of help. “I know you can do it, but this time it didn’t work out as well. Shall we take a look at this together?”

This training will equip participants on the do’s and don’ts of giving feedback, and will have trained to correctly apply these skills.

Team Coaching and Team Development
Teams can be hugely supportive in reaching goals and improving the work environment, but it can also obstruct. Bad blood, gossip, distant or non-communicative team members, unclear responsibilities, work pressure… Unless you are aware these aspects can have a negative affect on your team’s output.

This training will get your team back on track.

Interview Techniques
This training is tailored to leaders who want to brush up their knowledge and skills with regards to performance and appraisal interviews, bad news conversations, and absenteeism interviews. Lack of time usually results not taking the time for a meaningful conversation, quickly working down a list instead.

After this training participants will have the skills to have meaningful conversations, in which the employee will feel acknowledged and listened to.

Presentation Techniques
How do you talk enthusiastically about your company, your product or your approach? How are you perceived when talking to a group? What would be a fitting presentation technique for you? Haw can you interact with your audience?

This training will teach you the building blocks required for an effective presentation. You will watch your own performance, your pose, breathing, voice and articulation, as you will be filmed. Can people hear you, what does your voice sound like, and are you engaging? All this and more will be looked at during this training, as well as ways to improve your presentation skills. After this training you will be aware of your pose and demeanor in front of a group, and how to use it to your advantage.

Media Training
Is dealing with the press part of your work? Does Communications receive frequent requests for you to face the camera? If so, then it is important to know how journalists operate. What makes them tick, and what doesn’t? This media training includes you practicing in front of a camera with a mic, being asked questions by a well known journalist. You will learn to stay at ease, and respond to critical questions in an open and relaxed manner. You will practice the various interview strategies a journalist might use. We will practice a radio interview, effective sound bites for the news, an in-depth article for an (online) paper or magazine, a phone interview for regional TV, and a TV talk show interview. We will use a folder containing both theory and appealing examples. Everything will be filmed and reviewed. You will be taught about the do’s-and-don’ts. At the conclusion of the training you will know how to deal with the sometimes difficult questions from journalists, and be given a personal advice. You will be prepared to face the camera, and deal with everything associated when facing the press.

Selection Interviews, and Interview Techniques
During the day you will be taught theory which will immediately be applied in exercises. Participants will be offered various examples which can be used in Selection Interviews. A variety of Selection Interviews will be simulated with a trained actor. This training will address the STAR-methodology. This method will help you get a clear perspective of your candidate’s behaviour. You will learn to define the critical situation, allowing you to reveal tasks, actions and results. What behaviour and competencies are essential for the position you seek a candidate? Beyond skin deep – what are the candidate’s beliefs and motivations?
